This Year's Model Updates:

For 2006, there's a new "VortecMAX" performance group that includes a 345-hp, 6.0-liter V8, a heavy-duty tow package and a stronger rear axle; thusly equipped, the half-ton Silverado is on more equal footing with the Titan and the Hemi-equipped Ram. The Quadrasteer four-wheel steering option has been dropped, and the optional camper-style mirrors have been replaced by a folding and extending design with a built-in convex spotter glass. Other changes include slightly updated front-end styling and minor adjustments to trim levels and body configurations.

Pros:
  • Roomy extended and crew cab models, strong V8 engines, innovative features, slick hybrid truck option.
Cons:
  • Not as refined as the competition, low-grade interior materials, inconsistent build quality.

  • Love it - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I love this truck. I drove it off the lot with 7 miles on it. 5000 miles later and not a problem. This truck will go anywhere. I even pulled a 4wd truck out of a mud hole. (after I drove arround him!)

  • I Really Enjoy My Truck. - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I had owned many cars & SUVs (both small & large) and had always wanted a full size pickup truck. I purchased my Silverado and have never been sorry since. I am in the process of purchasing an extended warranty to cover my truck once the manufacturers warranty runs out in August of this year. The truck is solid & sound, very comfortable with enough power to handle whatever I need. I have the 5.3L V8 4X4 crew cab. The room interior comfort and roominess is hard to find in other trucks. I work for a Ford dealership in sales and have sold/driven most other types of trucks. I have not found one yet that have felt as safe & comfortable as my Silverado!

This is a real truck. My buddies with Fords agree. Have taken her off-road several times. No problem getting around or pulling buddies out of the mud. Anybody looking for the best truck needs to look and compare this truck to any thing on the market. Hands down I am now a Chevy driver for life.

  • Wheres my FORD? - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Cant pull or haul anything but a pot of soil without hurting a sensor. Sensors go all the time, Tranny slips and leaks, 18k miles and already had to replace tranny, rides like a model- T, and wheres my new F-150?, am I still complaining about this Chevy? oh yeah, FORD wins! Chevy took the buyout. you lose Chevy, and I just bought an 08 F-150 SuperCrew, nothing personal, but Bye Chevy..

  • Brakes on my Chevy - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I have driven a Chevy truck for about 20 years now. This 2006 is the first one Ive ever had trouble with. Took it back to the dealership in Opelika, Alabama a total of 7 times to get the brakes looked at. Warning lights kept coming on and also the car phone charger hasnt worked since the day it came off the lot. Im really disappointed in Chevy with this truck. The dealership would not fix it while it was under warranty and the brakes are still having major problems. Hate to say this but probably will not buy another new Chevy.

  • Like a rock - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

The ride is fairly smooth for a truck with the stiffer Z71 package. Gas mileage is much better than expected. With my tonno cover, I get over 20 mpg on the highway. Acceleration is excellent. The V8 is smooth, strong and responsive. It is very different from the V6 I am used to driving (different in a good way).

  • Best all around truck - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I spent 9 months deciding on the right truck. I needed crew cab,4WD,Leather/ power everything, comfortable yet lots of performance. Had it down to Tundra and the Titan. This beats them both. Tundra was like a camry inside and fell way short on the accessories and the titan was just not comfortable to drive. Silverados comfort is phenominal, looks great, tons of storage, get 15-18mpg, handles like a car, can tow massive loads, 4 wheel in the snow in Idaho mountains is incredible, and it has more features than either the Titan or the Tundra. Plus, $7000 cheaper than both models. From driving to work to beating around the back country, this truck is #1!!

  • Not a durable work truck., - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

While It has great mileage for a full size truck, there are few other aspects that I like about it. I didnt expect much from the v-6 but this is bad, I can deal without acceleration but it delivers poor torque while loaded or towing. I like a sparse interior, this one feels cheap. Seats are uncomfortable, I hate having the seatbelt in the seat, always seems to ride up to my neck and is not adjustable (it happens to people of different body types as me). Under dash, loose wires everywhere. Minor issues are starting to appear $30 here and $40 there, wont break the bank but annoying. Poor handling, spongy suspension, like a 1976 wagon. Least favorite vehicle Ive ever owned.

  • Great Truck for the Price - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Find that the Chevrolet extended cab work truck is an excellent value. Lots of room inside and good comfortable seating. The V6 is challenged to cruise in hilly areas without having to ramp into higher rpms, but does a good job on the highway. Most of these have exhaust vibration as mention by another reviewer. Transmission is smooth and brakes are responsive. I like the hood design for 2006 which is very rare. 21 mpg on the highway is a plus and access to the motor is easy.

  • Not very solid - 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I got my 2006 LT2 ext. cab silverado in april of 2010. It was very clean with only 35,000 miles on it.Now its October and I have replaced both front rotors after they warped, the passenger side window on the back door was replaced because it leaked air. They did a very poor job of that. Now the other side is leaking. The front end knocks I think its the rack and pinion so it is going back for that too. It also has a rattle in the dash, sounds like the instrument panel. Otherwise its GREAT.
